The Benefits of a Personal Trainer

By |2017-07-11T16:39:55+00:00July 11th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on The Benefits of a Personal Trainer

Maybe you are still on the fence about whether or not to use a personal trainer for your fitness and health goals. Or, you might have heard that personal trainers offer sports training programs. To help you see why you should sign-up with our personal trainers, I've put together a list of benefits to convince you why it can help you: Educational Benefits We do more than just show you what to do. Any video can do that. Where personal trainers make the difference is that we educate you on how to exercise, what it does for you, and the other ways you can improve your health and well-being. That includes information throughout our personal training sessions that focus on nutrition, sleep, lifestyle choices, and work-life balance. The education also includes teaching our clients why certain exercises are more effective for certain goals than others. For example, if you want to build strength, doing just cardio is not going to allow you to accomplish that goal. Our education is also intended to make you self-sufficient and safe so you don't get injured.  Proper Form for Maximum Results While there are mirrors everywhere in gyms it doesn't mean you know if [...]

Tips for Working Out in the Summer Heat

By |2017-06-17T17:33:36+00:00June 17th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Tips for Working Out in the Summer Heat

Now that summer has truly arrived in Roswell, Atlanta, and throughout Georgia, we're all feeling the heat and the humidity. That effect can often zap us of energy and the enthusiasm to work out. It can also impact on how we work out because we can get hydrated faster, which can be dangerous. That doesn't mean you should not work out but simply change your strategy while the weather stays hot. Here are some tips that will help you stay on track with your fitness goals no matter how it feels this summer: Change up the time of the day you do any exercise outdoors. For example, get up early to avoid the intensity of the sun and oppressive heat. You'll also find your running or biking path to be less crowded and you'll have your exercise already out of the way. You can also opt to move to late in the day after the sun begins to go down. Again, this keeps you out of the direct sunlight and gives you an opportunity to maintain your level of workout intensity. Another advantage to changing up the time you exercise is that it can trick your body right out of [...]

Your Body is Your Temple

By |2017-06-06T02:00:44+00:00June 6th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Your Body is Your Temple

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."  Whether you are religious or not, this statement has special meaning for everyone because we all struggle with the need to change ourselves. And, that includes how we look and feel. While we can't change everything that impacts us, we can make changes to ourselves like the shape of our bodies. All it takes is focus and commitment. Honoring Your Body  Your body is your temple.  It means that it is a place you should hold in high esteem. While we obviously don't want to worship ourselves, we do want to care enough about ourselves to take care of our bodies so we can enjoy a long and happy life.  There are many ways you can honor your body. The most important way is by eating healthy and opting to avoid taking in large portions and reducing our sugar, fat, alcohol, and caffeine intake. Another way is to exercise regularly and continue to move throughout the day. The worst thing we can do to our bodies is to have a sedentary lifestyle because it doesn't [...]

Matt Lein Introduces Two Training Warriors

These are two of my good friends.  Adrian (left) is only in his early 40s and was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease several years ago. He trains his butt off with me 3-4 days a week to slow the progression of the disease and alleviate the symptoms. He is a fighter! Nael (right) is still a rookie, but he's quickly become one of my favorite people. Like me, he wasn't blessed with the genetics of Thor. But he's got a heart the size of Texas, and he gives me everything he has every single time we train.  He asked me today when we took this picture, "you sure you want a fat guy in your training picture?" I said, "are you kidding me? Get in here!" When I look at these two guys I don't see a sick guy and a short, chubby guy. I see warriors. Make the Decision Personal Training is a very personal thing.  You have to be ready. You have to be dedicated. You have to be ready to make the decision to be a stronger, healthier you, AND, find the right trainer for you.  At Georgia Personal Training we customize each individual's training program to fit them. You may have been a member of a gym in the past where, when you signed up, they gave you a free personal training session. You may have at first been excited because it was something free but then you realized it was really just an excuse to give you a sales pitch about the gym’s personal training session. Before you know it, you found yourself signing up for a year’s worth of personal training sessions that you didn’t actually need. We don’t want you to think the one-hour complimentary personal training session we provide is intended to be a sales pitch. While we want to help you make the most of the benefits that come from working with a personal trainer, it’s not about making a sale for us when we spend this hour with you. That’s why our free sessions are a little bit different. During the one-hour session, we listen to you, your needs, and discuss what you want to achieve by coming to a gym. For some, it’s losing weight while others are seeking to build up their strength or get ready for an upcoming season of sports. From there, we show you the type of [...]

Your New Year’s resolution might have been all about losing weight, but did you know that there are numerous other benefits to signing up with a personal trainer and sweating it out with a rigorous exercise program? Other benefits tend to be emotional and mental, which prove to be just as important to your overall health and wellbeing than dropping those pounds and firming up your physical shape. The American Psychological Association even published results that illustrate the positive effect that regular exercise has on the brain and body. Everything in your body works together so when you start moving more and sweating, your body’s hormonal balance changes in response. Everything in your body works together so when you start moving more and sweating, your body’s hormonal balance changes in response. This puts your brain and mental state in a different place, often providing a sense of euphoria after exercise. Some people even feel invincible and have told me they could take on the world now. Others tell me they feel so much more relaxed and ready to face work again. Research studies show rapid decreases in anxiety, stress, and depression among those who participated in a study and exercised [...]

Get a Toned Body with Individually Designed Personal Training Programs

By |2017-02-07T04:19:56+00:00February 7th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Get a Toned Body with Individually Designed Personal Training Programs

Thanks to the Internet and sites like YouTube, there are numerous exercise training regimens to follow. Plus, you can still get DVDs for workout programs. However, there’s one problem with these cookie-cutter training programs: They were not specifically designed for your needs and situation or what you want to achieve. For example, you may have certain injuries that may impact the type of exercises you should do, or you are looking to achieve certain goals like toning or weight loss. Whatever the reason, the available workouts were not made for you so while they may work to some degree, they will not get you to where you want to be with your fitness and health goals. When you work with a personal trainer who has designed a workout for you, they take into account your lifestyle. For example, if you sit at a desk for nine hours, the workout would be different than someone who works on their feet all day. Then, there are issues related to posture, age, body fat, height and weight, gender and nutrition. All of these must be factored into the equation of a workout program. Then, we also need to learn how many times a [...]

Why You Should Add Personal Training to Your Fitness Program

By |2016-11-07T17:33:42+00:00November 7th, 2016|Personal Trainer, Personal Training|Comments Off on Why You Should Add Personal Training to Your Fitness Program

Maybe you are at a point in your fitness program where you have reached some of your weight loss goals and fitness objectives. However, you have hit a plateau and are not sure what to do next. This is where a personal trainer comes in. So many people believe that personal trainers are just there for people who are new to exercise or haven’t done it in a long time. But, in reality, a lot of personal trainers work with those that may already appear in shape. Here’s the difference they provide someone who may already have a fitness program: You may not be working out as hard or as smart as you think you are so a personal trainer can identify those things you are doing that need improvement or where you can start adding more weight or reps to your routine. You might be playing a specific sport in school and need to sharpen certain skills but are not sure how or where to start improving those areas. A personal trainer that understands the skills necessary for each type of sport can design a sports-based personal training program. You get support that can provide a way to keep [...]

What to Expect from Your Personal Trainer

By |2016-10-17T23:45:13+00:00October 17th, 2016|Personal Training|Comments Off on What to Expect from Your Personal Trainer

You hire a personal trainer because you expect that they will get you the results you have been looking for whether that is losing weight or body fat, toning up your body, or conditioning your body for a specialized sport. However, you play a big role in making that happen because you most likely don’t work with your trainer every time you go to the gym and they don’t follow you home to watch what you eat all day and night. There are some key things you can expect from your personal trainer that will help you focus and achieve your specific goals: Expertise and Knowledge A personal trainer can show you what you are doing right and what you need to fix when using various machines or exercise equipment. They have undergone rigorous training to understand how to correctly use different exercises so that you don’t get hurt and you maximize the results every time you use anything in the gym. Their knowledge often extends to nutrition, wellness, and even specific sports, if they are offering sports-specific training and conditioning. Encouragement and Support Many people struggle to get going or even stay motivated on their own when they are [...]

Choosing a Personal Trainer

By |2016-10-03T20:57:03+00:00October 3rd, 2016|Personal Trainer, Personal Training|Comments Off on Choosing a Personal Trainer

When you decide to get professional assistance with your fitness goals, it’s time to seek out a personal trainer. However, you don’t necessarily want to take the first one you come across when walking into a gym. Instead, consider these factors when choosing a personal trainer: Credentials: Make sure they can show you that they are certified as a personal trainer through an organization like The American Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). This shows that they have met a certain level of knowledge, competence, skill, and professionalism to serve you well. Experience: Find out how long they have been working as a personal trainer. While everyone has to start somewhere and it’s not necessarily a bad thing to start out with someone new, make sure that’s what you are comfortable with. The newest trainers tend to not charge as much as those well-seasoned trainers so this might be one way to make it fit your budget. Personality: It’s good to find someone who makes you feel comfortable and often this has to do with their personality. Ask yourself if you want someone who is a cheerleader, [...]

Working with a Personal Trainer Keeps You Motivated and Energized

Taking that personal fitness journey can be challenging and often discouraging when you go it alone. You may not be able to always find a workout pal to keep you going either. However, a personal trainer becomes your motivator, coach, confidante, mentor and more. They get you to your goals and keep you focused on that journey plus they can make it more fun along the way. Here are some statistics from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) that illustrate just how well personal trainers work to help you achieve your fitness goals: McClaran (2003) found that weekly sessions with a personal trainer significantly increased a client’s ability to move upward through the stages of change, vastly improving their physical activity. Mazzetti et al. (2000) found that training loads, peak power output, and fat-free mass were all increased among supervised (personally trained) participants compared to those who exercised alone. Researchers at Adelphi University compared in-home and at-the-gym personal training, finding that both were effective in terms of weight loss, cardiovascular function, adherence and motivation, with little differences between the two (Sykes et al., 2007). Hamilton et al. (2008) found that there are “numerous benefits to working with a qualified personal [...]

Why a Personal Trainer is Important to Your Workout

By |2016-09-10T21:44:06+00:00September 10th, 2016|Personal Training|Comments Off on Why a Personal Trainer is Important to Your Workout

Many people question why a personal trainer is important, saying it’s a waste of money when they can just figure out how to use the machines themselves and get into shape solo. However, there are many reasons why a personal trainer can change the outcome of our workout regimen, adding a new level to meeting your fitness goals. Here are some of the reasons why a personal trainer can be the defining difference to working out: If you are new to the gym, a personal trainer can help you understand what equipment works for what muscle group, how you should use it effectively, and what weight to set it for or repetitions to do to get started. This can also keep you safe from getting injured, which typically then sets you back from achieving your fitness goals. Personal trainers can see what you don’t see. Not only are they trained to see how to hold your arm, bend a leg, or position your body, but they also can see if you are doing it correctly more so than you because you may not always be working out in front of a mirror. And, you certainly can’t get a 360-degree like [...]
