FOOTBALL SPEED & AGILITY TRAINING

When it comes to sports like college football, where quickness and agility are key, training with a speed and agility coach can be incredibly beneficial for aspiring players. Georgia Personal Training provides elite football speed and agility training programs for athletes.

HOW DO YOU INCREASE SPEED

Firstly, let’s talk about speed training. Speed is a combination of three components. Stride length, stride frequency, and stride force. Stride length refers to the length of each stride, while stride frequency represents the number of strides taken per unit of time. Stride force is how much kinetic force you generate when your foot strikes the ground. The more force your stride creates, the further you propel yourself with each stride. Thereby covering the same distance in fewer steps. A speed and agility coach can help athletes improve both aspects.

FOOTBALL SPEED & AGILITY TRAINING METHODS

Through various training techniques, such as resistance training, plyometrics, and sprint drills, coaches can enhance an athlete’s stride length. Resistance training involves exercises that improve muscular strength, power, and explosiveness, which directly contribute to a longer, more powerful stride. Plyometrics are hands down the most powerful training tool you have in your tool kit when it comes to speed and agility. Plyometrics, are fast twitch, explosive movements, that utilize the elasticity of muscle and the stretch shortening cycle to improve force production capabilities. Typically plyometric movements are utilized on the muscles involved in running and jumping.

Robbie was one of the hardest working athletes that I ever knew. He was training for an hour, 4 days per week with me, in addition to school workouts, quarterback lessons, and studying. He was driven to show the world what he was capable of. His early high school career started with some adversity. But he never let it break him. Instead, Robbie doubled down on his efforts and turned himself into one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

FOOTBALL AGILITY

Agility is the ability to change direction rapidly while maintaining balance and control. It involves a combination of physical factors, including balance, coordination, flexibility, and reaction time. A speed and agility coach can help athletes develop these skills through various exercises and drills.

Agility ladder drills, cone drills, and lateral movements are commonly incorporated into agility training programs. These exercises challenge an athlete’s balance, footwork, and coordination, helping them become more agile and responsive on the field. Furthermore, specific reaction drills can enhance an athlete’s ability to quickly process visual and auditory stimuli, enabling faster decision-making during gameplay.

In addition to the physiological benefits, training with a sports performance specialist offers several other advantages. GPT trainers provide individualized guidance, ensuring that athletes perform exercises correctly and maximize their potential. They also tailor training programs to address specific weaknesses or areas for improvement in an athlete’s speed and agility.

Speed and agility training at GPT allows aspiring college football players to optimize their athletic performance. By improving stride length, stride frequency, balance, coordination, and reaction time, athletes can gain a competitive edge on the field.
