Here are some reasons why you should begin your fitness journey today with our personal trainers: You need to increase energy, lose weight, build muscle tone, or do one or more of those things. Why Work On Different Body Parts on Different Days

By |2017-12-18T23:37:30+00:00December 18th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Why Work On Different Body Parts on Different Days

If you don't train your muscles and make them work, you will essentially lose them. In their place will be fat. You'll lose strength, flexibility, coordination and many other benefits that muscles provide. To get the most out of your exercise routine, we recommend that you regularly work out various parts of your body during different routines. This is instead of working all parts at one time. Here's why   When you do strength training, it leads to these tiny tears in your muscle fibers. Those torn areas make room for new muscle tissue to grow. However, unlike a science fiction movie, it actually takes some time for your body to grow this new muscle tissue. That's the first reason why you shouldn't work the same muscles two days in a row. Switching off muscle groups allows the new muscle to grow in that area while you repeat the process in another area. Giving your muscles at least 24 hours of rest helps. However, if you are really sore, you may want to wait another day to give them more recovery time. One approach is to do an upper-body and lower-body split into your workout routine. The upper body includes doing [...]

Make a Difference Day with Fitness

By |2017-10-27T23:36:55+00:00October 27th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Make a Difference Day with Fitness

We are always looking to help others as owners of a gym and personal training facility. However, once a year, a special day comes along known as Make a Difference Day. This is when we really focus on the idea that we want to help those in our community make noticeable improvements in themselves and their outlook. You can, too. Here are some ideas to consider: Bring a Friend to the Gym Bring someone with you who you know has been struggling with their fitness goals. We'll give them a free pass to join you so they can see just how good it feels to work out. We also do gift certificates so think about gifting them with a month of membership and personal training session so they can see what's involved. Be a Fitness Buddy On those days when your friends are not training with us, be that person that encourages them to get there to do their homework that we've assigned them. Having a fitness buddy motivates them to get to the gym plus it helps you to stick with your goals. From this partnership comes two success stories rather than just one! Do a Breast Cancer Awareness 5K [...]

Fall Fitness Tips

By |2017-09-28T14:27:50+00:00September 28th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Fall Fitness Tips

Now that the weather is changing, you may want to tweak your fitness routine. After all, the temperature may be a little chillier in the mornings while the days are getting shorter. This may mean you will have to change the time you workout or how long you have to fit in. As a personal trainer, I have some great tips for fall fitness that help you make some alterations to your fitness routine that may even help move beyond any plateaus you are experiencing in your results. Make the Most of the Weather This is the time to actually do more exercise outdoors. It's not as hot throughout the Atlanta area, so you can work in some other types of exercise, including cycling, hiking, and walking. There are plenty of trails in and around our area that make this a great time to take your exercise to new places. Even doing yard work to pick up all those leaves can add to your workout. Try Some New Exercises If you have been following a personal training program with us, be prepared to try out some new types of exercise. Each season, we like to change it up and throw [...]

September is Self-Improvement Month

By |2017-09-03T17:27:00+00:00September 3rd, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on September is Self-Improvement Month

September is National Self-Improvement Month. There's no time like right now to start working on yourself and making an even better version of you. The month has just begun so you can make the most of this national event and think about how the ways you would like to improve yourself. Step 1: Make a List Think about all the things -- physical, emotional, mental, and social -- that you would like to do better at. After all, self-improvement is not just about your weight or activity level. It's everything that makes up you and creates a satisfying life. Maybe self-improvement means learning a new skill or increasing your income. Perhaps it is about doing more for others. Whatever you decide, writing it down will help hold you more accountable to actually achieving those improvements.  Step 2: Make the Necessary Appointments Tied to Areas of Improvement Figure out if there is outside professional support that can help guide the strategies you need to implement in order to make the improvements on your list. That may include a physician to assess health and safety, a personal trainer to guide you through the fitness process, and a mentor to help suggest direction [...]

How Small Changes Add Up to Big Results

By |2018-12-27T23:42:29+00:00August 20th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on How Small Changes Add Up to Big Results

Many clients come to our fitness facility and say they are overwhelmed with the goals they have in mind -- especially those that want to lose considerable weight. However, no fitness goal has to feel impossible. That's because, when it comes to getting in shape, even the smallest changes in our diet and lifestyle can start to immediately show up. In return, this pushes us to keep going to achieve even more. Before we know it, we reach our goals. While it's hard work, it's these lifestyle changes and new healthier habits that drive the change we seek. Here are some suggestions on starting small so you can work toward achieving those bigger goals without getting disappointed: Stop Eating Before You Feel Full Eating less is one of many small changes you can make. By taking smaller bites and chewing slowly, you are more likely to eat smaller portions. This is referred to as mindful eating and it helps ensure you don't overeat. “On a scale of one to 10, with one being you’re famished and 10 being you’re Thanksgiving full, stop eating when you’re at a five or six,” said Krieger. Using smaller plates can also help you make [...]

Never Too Old for Exercise or a Personal Trainer

By |2017-08-06T21:40:44+00:00August 6th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Never Too Old for Exercise or a Personal Trainer

If you think you are too frail or have too many issues that prevent you from exercising because of your age, think again. Age is only a number. There are people out there that prove that every day and can do more than someone half their age in terms of endurance, strength, and flexibility. Researchers have studied older people who exercise and find this type of movement to be the best kind of medicine that helps keep their bodies in peak condition, helping to then ward off certain conditions that other older people who are sedentary have. Exercise is also a great way to stay social. Many older people begin to become isolated. However, those that come into our gym have made great friends and often spend a long time here, enjoying the company and atmosphere. They also become great mentors and role models for younger people at the gym, motivating them to keep going. After all, no one wants to be outdone by someone on an exercise that is decades older than them! While you may at first feel intimidated, thinking the gym is for the young, we're pretty sure that your young at heart personality makes you a [...]

Personal Training Focuses on Individual Needs

By |2017-07-27T15:20:52+00:00July 27th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Personal Training Focuses on Individual Needs

One of the main reasons you should consider personal training is the ability to benefit from a focus on your individual needs. Every YouTube video workout or exercise program available on DVD is made for the masses. While these may offer some benefit for you, they are not customized to meet your own goals. For example, although you may be able to potentially lose weight from regular use of these videos, you will not be able to address other needs like toning, speed, strength, flexibility, endurance or sports-specific training. Not everyone is made the same or responds the same way to exercise. There are so many factors that come into it, including age, gender, current weight, and overall lifestyle not to mention previous injuries, surgeries, or life events. All contribute to where you are now and how you get to where you want to be with your fitness goals.  Complimentary Session However, working with a personal trainer could include one or more of these individual goals as part of your custom personal training program. We start out with a free one-hour session in order to get to know you and what you are looking to achieve from working out. We [...]

Staying Hydrated During Summer Personal Training and Exercising

By |2017-06-26T22:33:12+00:00June 26th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Staying Hydrated During Summer Personal Training and Exercising

The heat and humidity have arrived in Georgia so much so that it can put you off exercising. In reality, though, you don't want to take a break when you have fitness goals to fulfill. Whether you do personal training in our Roswell facility or you are doing one of your homework sessions from our personal training regimen, you want to take care of yourself in this summer heat to stay safe.  Your body will lose its hydrated state faster in the summer time and before you realize it. More than just leaving you thirsty, dehydration can increase your heart rate and block your body from cooling off. You'll then find yourself with heat exhaustion or heat stroke. This can have a deadly outcome. Here are some tips to stay hydrated whether you are running or doing a personal training session with us:   Try to avoid caffeine consumption as it is known as a diuretic and can have a negative effect on body fluid balance. Also stay away from alcohol, which also tends to dehydrate. While you most likely won't be knocking back a few beers before hitting our personal training session, what I mean is to avoid it [...]

These are two of my good friends.  Adrian (left) is only in his early 40s and was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease several years ago. He trains his butt off with me 3-4 days a week to slow the progression of the disease and alleviate the symptoms. He is a fighter! Nael (right) is still a rookie, but he's quickly become one of my favorite people. Like me, he wasn't blessed with the genetics of Thor. But he's got a heart the size of Texas, and he gives me everything he has every single time we train.  He asked me today when we took this picture, "you sure you want a fat guy in your training picture?" I said, "are you kidding me? Get in here!" When I look at these two guys I don't see a sick guy and a short, chubby guy. I see warriors. Make the Decision Personal Training is a very personal thing.  You have to be ready. You have to be dedicated. You have to be ready to make the decision to be a stronger, healthier you, AND, find the right trainer for you.  At Georgia Personal Training we customize each individual's training program to fit them. Personal Training just One of the Ways To Add More Exercise to Your Life

By |2017-03-22T19:13:40+00:00March 22nd, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Personal Training just One of the Ways To Add More Exercise to Your Life

Our society has become sedentary thanks to technology, desk jobs, and long commutes to and from work. That means all of us could move more and get more exercise in to become more active and keep those pounds off. There are many ways that you can add more exercise to your life even though you already feel overwhelmed by all that you do: Prioritize your health as part of a move more mindset. Everyone puts this at the bottom of their list when, in reality, it should be first because, without your health, you won’t be able to do everything else. You may find yourself with illnesses or health problems that stop all those other things you put first. This mindset will help you to mentally always make time for exercise. Use your lunch and coffee breaks at work to get in a quick walk and run up and down those stairs (if you have them). The misconception is that you need to find an hour each day when, in reality, you could just break down that exercise time into available increments. Turn off the television and other electronics at least two times a week (even more is better!) and [...]

Which category do you fall in?  Which style is better? First let me say that anyone who has the discipline to train gets our respect. Regardless of why you train, we believe that fitness training will improve your quality of life. We also believe that fitness training can and likely will improve your overall health and reduce your risk of injury or illness. It is our belief that those who choose to train are likely headed down the path that leads to an overall better life experience. All that said, lets delve into the the questions this article attempts to explore. Again, please keep in mind the article is not attempting to be judgemental, it is simply written in an effort to stir thinking, discussion and hopefully to sway your thinking as to the reasons you should train. What are you really trying to accomplish when you train? Is your goal to look good at the beach or perhaps you just want to potentially be more attractive to the opposite sex? Is your dream to be a famous body builder or figure model? Do you judge your progress by how defined your abs are, or by the size of your biceps and [...]

When It Gets Hot Outside Move Your Workouts Indoors There are two times each year when we see a big influx of new gym members. Summer is one of those times. With only three days remaining in the month, June is almost over. In Georgia, the hottest temperatures we experience all year routinely occur in the months of July, August and September. Rain is at a minimum during these months and sunshine and is everywhere. The heat and humidity are literally oppressive and quite frankly pretty dangerous if you choose to stay out in the sun too long. If history plays out, we will see an increase in gym signups over the coming weeks. Our Roswell area gym is open 24 hours a day. Our members can access the facility 7 days a week, using their key fob access tokens. Most folks who live here in the Roswell area have pretty hectic lives. With such busy schedules, our 24 hour, 7 day a week gym fits perfectly with their life style. I have to say that we have some of the greatest folks you have ever met working out here at Georgia Personal Training and Anytime 24 Hour Fitness. We count [...]

Morning Workouts Fire The Engine

Morning Workouts Can Enhance Your Life Personal Training For Busy People Our recommendation is, workout early in the morning. An early workout can really be beneficial to your body and to your psyche. When you workout in the morning, it super charges your body and mind for the busy day to come. Many of the clients we serve love morning workouts. Their metabolism kicks into high gear and the feel great for the entire day. The morning workout allows their bodies to start burning fat, early in the day. At the same time they are getting a head start on burning fat, they also get to enjoy other side benefits such as more energy and increased mental focus at the office. Here is a quick science lesson. Your body slows down your metabolic rate and lowers your brain temperature while you sleep. In effect, your body is repairing any damage from the previous day.  Metabolism uses two processes to break down and build up molecules in your body. These processes are called, anabolism and catabolism. Anabolism relates to the build up of molecules, while catabolism controls the breakdown of molecules. In laymen's terms, your body uses these processes when storing molecules [...]
