Staying Hydrated During Summer Personal Training and Exercising

By |2017-06-26T22:33:12+00:00June 26th, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Staying Hydrated During Summer Personal Training and Exercising

The heat and humidity have arrived in Georgia so much so that it can put you off exercising. In reality, though, you don't want to take a break when you have fitness goals to fulfill. Whether you do personal training in our Roswell facility or you are doing one of your homework sessions from our personal training regimen, you want to take care of yourself in this summer heat to stay safe.  Your body will lose its hydrated state faster in the summer time and before you realize it. More than just leaving you thirsty, dehydration can increase your heart rate and block your body from cooling off. You'll then find yourself with heat exhaustion or heat stroke. This can have a deadly outcome. Here are some tips to stay hydrated whether you are running or doing a personal training session with us:   Try to avoid caffeine consumption as it is known as a diuretic and can have a negative effect on body fluid balance. Also stay away from alcohol, which also tends to dehydrate. While you most likely won't be knocking back a few beers before hitting our personal training session, what I mean is to avoid it [...]

Tips for Working Out in the Summer Heat

By |2017-06-17T17:33:36+00:00June 17th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Tips for Working Out in the Summer Heat

Now that summer has truly arrived in Roswell, Atlanta, and throughout Georgia, we're all feeling the heat and the humidity. That effect can often zap us of energy and the enthusiasm to work out. It can also impact on how we work out because we can get hydrated faster, which can be dangerous. That doesn't mean you should not work out but simply change your strategy while the weather stays hot. Here are some tips that will help you stay on track with your fitness goals no matter how it feels this summer: Change up the time of the day you do any exercise outdoors. For example, get up early to avoid the intensity of the sun and oppressive heat. You'll also find your running or biking path to be less crowded and you'll have your exercise already out of the way. You can also opt to move to late in the day after the sun begins to go down. Again, this keeps you out of the direct sunlight and gives you an opportunity to maintain your level of workout intensity. Another advantage to changing up the time you exercise is that it can trick your body right out of [...]

Your Body is Your Temple

By |2017-06-06T02:00:44+00:00June 6th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Your Body is Your Temple

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."  Whether you are religious or not, this statement has special meaning for everyone because we all struggle with the need to change ourselves. And, that includes how we look and feel. While we can't change everything that impacts us, we can make changes to ourselves like the shape of our bodies. All it takes is focus and commitment. Honoring Your Body  Your body is your temple.  It means that it is a place you should hold in high esteem. While we obviously don't want to worship ourselves, we do want to care enough about ourselves to take care of our bodies so we can enjoy a long and happy life.  There are many ways you can honor your body. The most important way is by eating healthy and opting to avoid taking in large portions and reducing our sugar, fat, alcohol, and caffeine intake. Another way is to exercise regularly and continue to move throughout the day. The worst thing we can do to our bodies is to have a sedentary lifestyle because it doesn't [...]

Clients are Like Family

By |2017-05-07T16:12:07+00:00May 7th, 2017|Fitness Trainer|Comments Off on Clients are Like Family

One of the best things about operating a gym and having personal training clients is that they become like family. Getting in shape and accomplishing your fitness objectives are definitely very personal goals, so letting someone else in to help you becomes a very close relationship. I care about my clients, and they develop a bond with me and the other personal trainers here.  Besides seeing the results happen and goals met, it's one of my favorite things about running a fitness center. I was an only child in my family so I never had siblings to create those type of brotherly bonds. I've had great friends, but the closest to siblings that I've come are some of my many clients. Last month was Siblings Day -- on April 10th to be exact. On that night, I just so happened to be watching some baseball players compete against each other that I've worked with for awhile now. It made me realize in the midst of those sessions on Siblings Day that I am so blessed to have clients that I consider to be my "little brothers." It made me realize in the midst of those sessions on Siblings Day that [...]

These are two of my good friends.  Adrian (left) is only in his early 40s and was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease several years ago. He trains his butt off with me 3-4 days a week to slow the progression of the disease and alleviate the symptoms. He is a fighter! Nael (right) is still a rookie, but he's quickly become one of my favorite people. Like me, he wasn't blessed with the genetics of Thor. But he's got a heart the size of Texas, and he gives me everything he has every single time we train.  He asked me today when we took this picture, "you sure you want a fat guy in your training picture?" I said, "are you kidding me? Get in here!" When I look at these two guys I don't see a sick guy and a short, chubby guy. I see warriors. Make the Decision Personal Training is a very personal thing.  You have to be ready. You have to be dedicated. You have to be ready to make the decision to be a stronger, healthier you, AND, find the right trainer for you.  At Georgia Personal Training we customize each individual's training program to fit them. Personal Training Can Help You Avoid Workout Injuries

By |2023-09-18T00:29:13+00:00April 19th, 2017|Georgia Personal Training|Comments Off on Personal Training Can Help You Avoid Workout Injuries

Getting to the gym is half the battle of getting started on a physical regimen. The last thing you want to do is hurt yourself while there because this could set you back weeks or months on achieving your goal of weight loss or fitness. If you are new to the gym, it’s a good idea to start out with a personal trainer because you are at a greater risk of injury if you don’t. That’s because you may not know how to use the equipment and use poor form due to your lack of experience lifting weights or doing certain types of exercises. Here’s what a personal trainer can do for you so you avoid the pain of workout injuries. An Education in Exercise Personal training is essentially an education program personalized for you. It teaches you how to use weights and machines, including the appropriate form that will keep the pressure off your joints and help you determine which exercises are the best for you at each point in your weight loss or fitness process. The education includes how much to do of each exercise and, if weight is involved, how much weight to lift for your [...]

What to Eat to Help Gain Muscle Mass

By |2017-04-03T14:28:49+00:00April 3rd, 2017|Nutrition|Comments Off on What to Eat to Help Gain Muscle Mass

Now that you have made the decision to embark on your fitness and health journey with personal training, you not only need an exercise regimen to follow, but you also need to change how you eat if you want to help gain muscle mass. While I am not a licensed nutritionist, I do have years of fitness training that has involved developing a diet that has helped me and numerous clients gain muscle mass by feeding their body the right food for weight training. Here are some great tips related to what you can eat to help build muscle mass: Lean beef should be central to your diet because it is packed with protein as well as iron, zinc, and B-vitamins. The amino acids within the lean beef help to promote muscle growth in combination with insulin. Just consume it in small portions of no more than six ounces at a time to help fuel muscle growth. Boneless and skinless chicken is another good muscle food. It is packed with protein that helps maintain and repair muscles while also providing benefits for weight and bones. It’s a versatile food that you can enjoy many different ways so you don’t get [...]

Personal Training just One of the Ways To Add More Exercise to Your Life

By |2017-03-22T19:13:40+00:00March 22nd, 2017|Fitness|Comments Off on Personal Training just One of the Ways To Add More Exercise to Your Life

Our society has become sedentary thanks to technology, desk jobs, and long commutes to and from work. That means all of us could move more and get more exercise in to become more active and keep those pounds off. There are many ways that you can add more exercise to your life even though you already feel overwhelmed by all that you do: Prioritize your health as part of a move more mindset. Everyone puts this at the bottom of their list when, in reality, it should be first because, without your health, you won’t be able to do everything else. You may find yourself with illnesses or health problems that stop all those other things you put first. This mindset will help you to mentally always make time for exercise. Use your lunch and coffee breaks at work to get in a quick walk and run up and down those stairs (if you have them). The misconception is that you need to find an hour each day when, in reality, you could just break down that exercise time into available increments. Turn off the television and other electronics at least two times a week (even more is better!) and [...]

Sports-Specific Personal Training Addresses Unique Sports Requirements

By |2017-03-20T20:38:01+00:00March 20th, 2017|Uncategorized|Comments Off on Sports-Specific Personal Training Addresses Unique Sports Requirements

While we offer personal training for anyone who wants to get in shape, work on their strength, or add definition, we also provide sports-specific personal training for a wide range of sports, including baseball, football, basketball, lacrosse, swimming and more. You may wonder why you would add sports-specific personal training when you make it to every practice and the coach has you doing all types of exercises and plays. Although that is very necessary to helping you do well, many athletes have discovered that the additional training they get from this experience significantly enhances their overall performance. The individual sports-specific personal training programs we put together for you reflects what you will be doing in that sport. For example, if you are a soccer player or football player, we will incorporate a lot of sprinting, twisting, and running not to mention sidestepping. If you are a swimmer, then we would focus on endurance and a greater focus on back, shoulder, and arm muscles. Other sports may require exercises that generate explosive power while still others require greater flexibility and speed or a combination of skills. When looking for a personal trainer that offers sports-specific training, it’s important to find one [...]

Why Try a Free Personal Training Session Besides the Fact That It’s Free?

By |2017-03-08T22:08:14+00:00March 8th, 2017|Personal Training|Comments Off on Why Try a Free Personal Training Session Besides the Fact That It’s Free?

You may have been a member of a gym in the past where, when you signed up, they gave you a free personal training session. You may have at first been excited because it was something free but then you realized it was really just an excuse to give you a sales pitch about the gym’s personal training session. Before you know it, you found yourself signing up for a year’s worth of personal training sessions that you didn’t actually need. We don’t want you to think the one-hour complimentary personal training session we provide is intended to be a sales pitch. While we want to help you make the most of the benefits that come from working with a personal trainer, it’s not about making a sale for us when we spend this hour with you. That’s why our free sessions are a little bit different. During the one-hour session, we listen to you, your needs, and discuss what you want to achieve by coming to a gym. For some, it’s losing weight while others are seeking to build up their strength or get ready for an upcoming season of sports. From there, we show you the type of [...]
