More sunshine means fewer clothes, which means you may want to start on that plan to feel confident in those fewer clothes for the spring and summer seasons. Here are some suggestions for how to approach your weight loss or toning goals for this summer.

Plan and Schedule

Since there is a timeline involved, you can work backwards by planning what you will do each week toward your fitness goals to reach that by summer. You can set individual goals for each week related to how you will achieve that weight loss. A journal is a great way to do that as are the numerous fitness apps now available so you can track what you eat and your physical activity.

To guide the planning process, it helps to work with a personal trainer who can give you realistic guidelines about how much you can achieve each week toward that goal and provide the program to achieve it. This includes exercise and diet.

Make Small Changes

The worst approach I see is when people try to make drastic changes and go with what they see as quick fixes. That means starving themselves or depriving themselves of anything they like. Others resort to diet pills and other dangerous tactics.Brandi side by side

Rather than go radical, which could potentially harm you and certainly won’t deliver the results, go with small changes. For example, replace processed food snacks with a healthier choice like fruit or nuts. Gradually add to your exercise regimen rather than trying to do it all right away and ending up injured. Focus on things like sleeping more and drinking larger amounts of water.

Get Support

More progress has been made by having a workout buddy or support team that is there to hold you accountable. Our bootcamps and other classes are great because I see how quickly everyone bonds and soon becomes friends. That support and encouragement is so important to not giving up and seeing it through to the summer body you want.
