With the busy holiday season behind us, it’s time to kick it into high gear and get started on those new year fitness resolutions you set.
Not only do you want to get started, but you also want to keep going throughout the year without losing the motivation to achieve these goals.
Here are some ways to stick to your fitness resolutions:
Have specific and realistic workout goals
As a personal trainer, I hear generic resolutions all the time, such as join a gym or work out three times a week. However, you need something more specific than that, and that’s where personal training comes in.
We can help you quantify and set realistic goals that are structured around meeting with your personal training and doing specific routines when you are not meeting with us. We can help you set goals around changing your weight, body fat, and stamina. We can also help you be realistic about what you set given your schedule, age, and ability. That way, you will get results instead of being disappointed and give up.
Pick a workout you like
Personal trainers can also help you come up with workouts you enjoy, that challenge you, and that don’t get old. We’ll be able to suggest those workouts that you can enjoy what you do rather than dread that it’s a certain type of cardio. That’s why our gym also has things like boot camp classes and other fun type classes that get you moving and on your way to meeting your fitness resolutions.
Try an activity monitor
Some people swear by them and other people don’t like them. We suggest you try one out to see if it’s right for you, especially on those days you are not working with a personal trainer. The data is good to help you see progress on those specific fitness goals and to keep you motivated as you see improvements.
Walking more
In-between those personal training sessions, we always suggest walking more. If you can do it as part of your commute or daily workday, even a half-hour walk can make a difference. Get out and walk your dog or park farther away at the mall or grocery store. Walking gets your blood flowing and has been proven to help with weight loss and weight management. It increases blood flow for your physical and mental health, too!
