I began working with Matt back in 2008 when I was 52 years old.  When I walked into the gym I was not sure what to expect.  It was a difficult transition for me as my trainer of nearly 5 years had recently passed away unexpectedly.  My experience with my previous trainer had been great, and we had become dear friends.  So looking for a new trainer was difficult as you can imagine.  When I met Matt I was immediately impressed by his knowledge of fitness and his background in athletic training.  I figured he might be a good fit for me, but I wasn’t ready to commit to anything long term yet.

Matt had actually known my trainer that had passed and was very sensitive to my situation.  Matt knew I needed someone like him, but also understood that I am not the type that responds well to high pressure sales.  He offered to work with me three times for at no cost to show me what his training sessions were like.  After the first session I knew he would be my new trainer.  I liked the variety and his fast pace workout style, and I liked how my body felt the next day.  After that first day of training, I felt soreness in areas I had never felt before.  I also felt like the cardio component of Matt’s workouts were something that had been missing from my previous program.  I knew this would be a good fit for me so when I met him for my next free session I brought him a check for the three months of training.  I never could have guessed that I would still be training with Matt 6 years later.

Here I am, 58 years old, doing 4 one hour training sessions per week, as well as the Saturday boot camp class.  The results have been nothing short of amazing.  I have seen more results and changes to my physique over the last 6 yrs than in all my previous years of exercise combined.  The most encouraging thing for me is that the results have not slowed at all over the years.  Typically you would expect to see a lot of results early on, but then a slow drop off and plateau as time goes by.  This never happened for me.  In fact I think this last year of training has produced more results for me than any of our previous years together.  I attribute my continued gains to Matt and his dedication to his craft.  Every week he is coming up with new techniques and routines that I have never done before.  It’s very encouraging to feel like a guy my age doesn’t just have to maintain his health, but can actually continue to improve it.

Like most of us, I dread the idea of getting older and losing my ability to be active.  With the training I have done here I feel like I’m aging in reverse.  Everything I do is better than it was 10-15 years ago.  I now see that it is possible to stay fit, strong, and healthy for as long as I am willing to put the work in.  I wish more people would make the decision that I made to begin training at GPT.  It has been one of the best decisions of my life, and I plan to continue for as long as I am physically able.
